Power Flats Kick Heels to the Curb this Season
Keep up with the fast pace of 2013 in chic and comfortable flats

Ever since stilettos became a wardrobe staple (thanks to Sex and the City) heels have reached painfully new heights.  For some of us, especially those of us who are vertically challenged, it's hard to feel sexy without throwing on a pair of sky-high heels to elevate our entire appearance.  At work, heels evoke a sense of style and authority and help women meet the expectation to always look polished while on the go.  It's hard to resist the funky and affordable styles of Steve Madden, Vince Camuto, Sam Edelman and the like with their studded, spiked, strapped and printed platform heels.

However, with the start of a brand new year, comes new trends and right now, low heels and flats are at an all-time high.  We're not talking about bland, shapeless ballet flats.  With so many elegant, shapely and fierce styles to choose from this season, you won't have to sacrifice glamour and professionalism for comfort.  These shoes can be worn with literally every outfit; skinny jeans, boyfriend jeans, suits, leggings, shorts, skirts, evening wear, you name it!

To prove that this trend doesn't mean your entire wardrobe has to fall flat, below are some of our favorite looks to rock on various occasions this season.

Vince Camuto, Marcin, $74.99- These studded two-inch biker inspired booties add subtle edge to a casual look. They look great with skinny jeans, leggings and cutoff shorts.

Steve Madden, Missmee, $129.95- Embellished with stud accents, these soft slipper loafers are perfect for any casual look.  For a less subtle look, they also come in a fun, studded animal print.

Lulu's, Mia Ashley Leopard Print Cap-Toe Pointed Flats, $64- The name pretty much says it all.  These ankle-strapped leopard flats are topped off with a pointed metal cap.  They're the perfect addition to evening wear, or can be worn to tastefully vamp up your office look.

Dolce Vita, Drew Lace Oxford, $79- Running with the popular "borrowed from the boys" theme, these oxfords add a cute and classic touch to a more refined casual look.  If you want to add a fun, girly flair to this boyish look, they also come in leopard and zebra print.

Don't worry ladies, heels aren't going anywhere.  They continue to outsell flats in the U.S. by far, and are a fool proof go-to for practically any look.  However, it's comforting to know that women can opt to keep up with their complex and busy schedules in something more sensible and chic.

Even People's 2012 "Most Beautiful Woman," Beyonce, admits that although it took having baby Blue to give in to the comfort and convenience of flats, she still feels stylish, stating, "I never thought there would be a day when I wouldn't wear heels.  Now that I have a child, I walk around holding her all day, I'm buying loafers and oxfords.  I love them, because they're comfortable...And shorter heels too.  I'd always thought, 'The higher the heel, the sexier.' But now I'm like, 'These are really sexy.'"  Beyonce's approval is enough to make us crazy in love with this trend! In light of Kimye's big news, we're sure that even style maven, Louboutin lover, and now, expecting mother, Kim Kardashian, will be kaving in to this kool and komfortable trend later this year.
