Men’s footwear, like menswear itself, is vastly changing. As the men of today become more daring in their style of dress, so do what they decide to put on their feet. This new found freedom has paved the way for new and innovative styles and trends to hit the runway and reach the consumer. And that’s exactly what’s happening this spring.
You can always rely on shoes, be it men’s or women’s, to take an outfit to the next level. This happens through variety of shapes and sizes and fabric and color. This season features materials like leathers and suede, as well as metallic and printed fabrics.
When going casual, “sportive” is the word. Sneakers are back, and they’re great in a wide range of designs and materials. For a fashionable yet subtle look, color blocked high tops are eye-catching and comfortable (see slideshow). To stay on trend, match them with a suit. When worn correctly they can go from day to night. For a more fashion forward look, play with colors, patterns, and prints. Designers like Jeremy Scott for Adidas have a decoration of styles to choose from. Mix and match with printed garments and matching accessories. For sandals, it's all about the look. Steer clear of classic styles and instead look for sleek leather, comfortable soles, new material and exposed hardware like that of Givenchy and Louis Vuitton (see slideshow).
Getting dressed up usually means classic garments and boring footwear, but not this season. Spring footwear is characterized by a mixture of different textures and effects that are making dress shoes fashionable and flattering. Classic footwear like the oxford and high-top boot is spruced up by using classic palettes and contrasted soles, as well as elevated platforms like the "Levitate" shoe by Prada (see slideshow). Metallic and gradient effects, as done by Maison Martin Margiela (see slideshow), are very trendy but can be worn all throughout summer. When shopping this trend look for metal trim, perforated material, exotic skins, distressed leather, and fringe as well as bright colors and prints.
