The extravagant Chanel designer Karl Lagerfield, and his beloved cat Choupette, have been transformed into collectible statues as part of the designer’s most recent collaboration with “Tokidoki," aptly entitled "todoki x Karl Lagerfield." Tokidoki is a Japanese inspired brand which has amassed an extensive following since its debut in 2005, with their items being sold all over the country in major stores such as Nordstrom, Fred Segal and Macy's, as well as nearly 1,000 boutiques in over 60 countries worldwide.
The anticipated collection launched to eagerly awaiting fashionistas on Net-A-Porter on July, 4, and was met with praise. The cut-price and quirky collection ranges in price from $50-$300, and includes three Karl figurines, iPhone cases, printed pants and T-shirts, scarves, a Karl embellished clutch bag, as well as the limited edition statue of Karl and his cat dubbed “Mr. Choupette”. Unfortunately, we will have to wait a little longer for this timeless piece as it isn’t released until July, 12, and will retail at $200.
This most recent collection marks the second collaboration with the Tokidoki brand which was formed by Italian artist Simone Legno. The first statue of the famously outspoken Karl was created earlier in the year to commemorate the designer’s first stand-alone store located on Boulevard Saint-Germain in Paris.
Of his collection, Karl has told Vogue UK “I am very flattered that I have become a tokidoki. I always loved them and am very happy to be one of them”.
