Catherine Malandrino's New Breeze
Her Spring 2011 collection is light, moody and very breezy.

Four days into Fashion Week, the dramatic changes in weather began - as guests scurried outside in the damp drizzle to attend Catherine Malandrino's Spring 2011 outdoor presentation. Oddly enough, throughout the show the weather lightened up to accentuate the softness of beiges and browns that encapsulated the collection. Malandrino's strength came from altering proportions  - many layered-over shorts, and under tops - whilst hems battled from sweeping the floors to above the knees.

There was an amazing balance between easy dropped-crotch shorts and pants, to wide-leg trousers made of light, breezy  fabrics - all complimenting the crocheted knitwear just fine. In tow came floor-length dresses with prints expressing moody darkness and blouses with delicate appliques - many topped of with a straw hat.

Could this be Malandrino's new permanent direction? Maybe, maybe not. Either way, we don't mind it while it lasts.
