BEHIND THE FABRIC
May Contain Dog Fur

Here’s something that’s sure to get a rise out of animal lovers everywhere. Marc Jacobs' faux fur coat line designed for the high-end bargain store Century 21, has been discovered to contain dog fur parts. The type of fur used in the coat line is from an animal named the Chinese Raccoon Dog. The scene went down when the Humane Society of the United States sent a hidden camera into the a Century 21 store. The stance of Jacobs seems to be fairly ambivalent. The irony is that Marc Jacobs is a vegan and animal lover himself. Jacobs has not responded to requests to speak on the matter. His label's hypocrisy lies in producing something real under the title “faux fur,” and selling it to the public, especially at such a well-known department store such as Century 21. Reactions have been volatile, particularly from young woman, who are his greatest fan base. “I think that’s horrible,” pronounced a 23 year old fashionista, “because I don’t believe in wearing real fur, I would be really upset if I purchased something that said it was fake and it was real.”

Halle Berry Rocks a New 70's Look

For a recent Russia Interview magazine, Halle Berry rocked a 70’s inspired wardrobe akin to Diana Ross in Mahogany. And in her new movie, The Call, where she plays a 911 caller on the hunt for a serial killer, Halle wears a funky, curly afro, that is also vaguely '70s. What gives? We know Marc Jacobs, as far back as 2010, sent Louis Vuitton models down the runway in ruffled baby doll dresses and curly afro wigs. Is the afro making a comeback?

Noteworthy Nail Trends for 2013

Whether it’s nails dipped in “caviar,” glitter, or splattered with polka dots or animal print, the sky’s the limit when it comes to nail art in 2013. Nails are making a bold statement this year and there’s a multitude of hot trends showing up on celebrities and being offered at local salons. Gel or shellac? Square, round, or pointy stiletto nails? These are just a few of the latest options in nail decor Here are 10 hottest nail trends for 2013.

Stiletto: Pointy stiletto nails are the latest trendy nail shape, in which nails are filed into a point. To achieve this look, you have to apply acrylic nails or have long natural nails. Although this is a cool look, it isn't quite as functional as some of the other nail fads trending right now.

Where It All Began...

Here at Glam Damn It, we're always caught up on the latest trends. However, did you ever wonder when and where this global interest in high fashion, our monthly subscriptions to Vogue and Cosmo, and frivolous shopping sprees at Bloomingdale's and Bergdorf Goodman, among many other luxurious pleasures, all began? Over the years, fashion has become so accessible, and rarely do we stop and think about its progression. Of course, we like to think that New York City is the fashion capital of the world (don't worry, it is...now), but fashion as we know it started in the mid-1860s in a beautiful city called Paris. Ever heard of it?
