Restaurant Review: Gemma

Cuisine: Italian
Price Range: Moderate to Expensive

East Village
335 Bowery
(at 3rd Street)
New York, NY 10012
(212) 505-9100

Classic Italian dishes comfortably shine at Gemma, a New York eatery that may not be raising the bar, but they’re certainly keeping it at an appropriately delicious level. With old world elements like thatched wine bottles hanging from rafters, half-burned candelabras, farm-style tables made from distressed wood, and chic counter-parts like the copper-covered bar, Gemma has the feel of an old shoe that just got resoled. Dark wood paneling and soft lighting give your meal a touch of intimacy, while an extensive wine list with a wide range of moderate to super expensive choices allow for a nice evening out.

Boutique Rundown: Marc Jacobs

Marc Jacobs
163 Mercer St.
(between W. Houston and Prince Street)
New York, NY 10012
(212) 343-3912

We all know him, we all love him, we all crave him. Walking into Marc Jacobs feels like walking into a showroom. Racks of neutral colored clothes line the walls from front to back, with shoes lined up underneath. Men’s clothes are on the left, and women’s clothes on the right. Stark white walls provide a minimalist backdrop, while Marc Jacobs’ signature purses deliver a splash of color to the store. More than just clothes and bags, you’ll find accessories from big belts for her and ties for him to sunglasses, gloves, scarves, and signature perfumes and cologne. Oh, and who can resist $10 rain boots?

Boutique Rundown: Agent Provocateur - Soho's Premiere Lingerie

Agent Provocateur
133 Mercer Street
(between Prince and Spring Street)
New York, NY 10012
(212) 965-0229

Agent Provocateur specializes in basic and themed lingerie designed to kick it up a notch in the bedroom. The best thing about AP’s designs is that they are scandalous and classic at the same time, the type of garments that you would see on a pinup. After launching in London in 1994, AP has expanded into several international stores and an extensive online catalogue. A pink neon sign announcing the entrance to the Soho store and a staff outfitted in maid uniforms, pin curls and red lipstick underscore the boudoir theme.

Getting to Know: Agyness Deyn

Laura Hollins, better known as Agyness Deyn, was born on February 16, 1983 in Manchester, England. Hollins/Deyn, who is not only a model but a singer, is rumored to be starting her own band called ‘Gene Jacket’.

Miss Deyn, who is has been hailed as, “the fashion industry’s next great supermodel,” by the New York Post, is much older then the average model. However, age hasn’t stopped Deyn yet; it is very ironic that in a business that thrives off of youth is enthralled by 28 year old Agyness Deyn.
