Over the weekend, Mariah Carey gave birth today to two healthy babies. The twins, one girl and one boy, weighed in at 5 pounds and 3 ounces and 5 pounds and 6 ounces respectively and are doing extremely well. Mariah Carey and her husband Nick Cannon are overjoyed, as the day was a celebration two-fold.
April 30th, the date of the twins’ birth, is also the couple’s wedding anniversary. Every year of their marriage the two renew their vows to make the day even more special. Now the day is an event that will be impossible to top!
True to tradition, though, they renewed their wedding vows at the hospital’s chapel the day after the twins were born. The couple has not said what they’ve named the twins, but the press, magazines, and gossip blogs will be on it the moment they do.
Complex has a collection of the top 50 failed pieces of technology on their blog today. Many are old familiars that could not keep up with the times, but a lot are pieces of tech that didn’t see the light of day to most of us. Strange devices, oddball inventions, and items that suffered from coming in second all make the list.
Most will be surprised to find at least one item they own and love makes the list as a failed piece of technology. Windows Vista and Nintendo’s DSi XL are among the first readers will see upon browsing the list. While they don’t rank high on the list of bad ideas, it’s surprising to see that they are considered a failure. Vista’s bugs and the XL’s size, however, resulted in their downfall, and they’re among the losing here.
To commemorate the 25th anniversary of the first appearance of Mario, Converse Japan is releasing two limited edition sneakers featuring the pixilated plumber. The sneakers come in black and white and feature the Mario playable in Super Mario Bros. Most of remember this game as one of our first video game experiences on either the NES or in the arcade, but it’s been ported to nearly every single game console since its birth.
The tiny champ will appear patterned on the classic hi-top Chuck Taylors. The iconic Converse star logo is replaced by Mario’s invincibility star. They’re an extremely fun but subtle twist on the typical Chuck.
These shoes hit stores come July!
In the shadow of the Royal Wedding today, a couple was split when Angelina Pivarnick of the Jersey Shore and fiancée David Kovacs called it quits. The couple had been engaged for only three months and fell under harsh media attention when Angelina became pregnant.
Today, Kovacs was the only one to comment on the split. Although the engagement itself had cynics calling it a bid for ratings, Kovacs seemed genuinely upset. From an interview with Radar Online he says:
“I’m going through a really tough time right now,” he said in an exclusive interview. “I have ended things with Angelina.”
He claimed that he went through her phone and saw texts from multiple guys.
“I got a text from a fire fighter who actually apologized for sleeping with Angelina saying he just found out she was engaged. … I actually found a pair of guy’s underwear in her car.”
Aakash Nihalani is an artist famous for working with just tape. From a simple, singular, resource, he creates beautiful and intricate pieces that stand out against urban backdrops. Even his simple pieces show us parts of New York City, his home, we would not normally see. With tape, he creates shapes and visuals within ordinary objects and places that are normally just waiting under the surface of our imaginations.
Normally, Nihalani simply takes photographs of his pieces alone on sidewalks or on walls or with a crowd of curious bystanders. In his new series, tentatively titled Once Upon a Wall, he becomes a part of the art. My Modern Met recently had the opportunity to talk with Nihalani about his new self-portrait project. Of the sudden change he said:
Former PETA spokesperson, Olivia Munn, is doning a bikini and hitting the waves this week to advertise for Carl's Jr. The actress and comedian is most well-known for her start on TechTV, which later became G4. She has recently joined up with the crew of The Daily Show as their new Asian Correspondent.
She's teamed up with basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on a jet ski to introduce the fast food chain's burgers and new tagline. "Just the way it is" will be Carl's Jr.'s new motto, though not too many know what that means for them yet, or what it has to do with jet skis.
Tumblr, thought to be the image equivalent to Twitter to a lot and hipster central to many, has hosted some real gems in its young existence. Sometimes it’s a treasure chest of beautiful, cool, or funny images on the internet. Finding these cool pages can be a bit daunting, though. Luckily, Neatorama’s gathered a list of 11 cool Tumblr pages to satisfy your curiousity. Here are just a few:
[Citation Needed] is dedicated to funny or redundant cases of “citation needed” notes attached to articles on and offline. Such gems as “Fuzzy Wuzzy (poem), a popular children’s poem/tongue-twister in which a bear is thought to be fuzzy, but it turns out he’s not” that need citation appear throughout the page.
Today marks an entire week since the Playstation Network went down for the count. An attack on its system last Wednesday left players unable to get on line and play multiplayer. This is the longest the Playstation Network has ever been down in its entire history.
Last night the extent of the damage was confirmed. The entire Playstation Network will have to be rebuilt from the ground up. In an update to the Playstation blog, Sony makes mention of the network’s shut down being due to “malicious action”. Now it is confirmed that “personal information” may have been compromised. In short, credit card information linked to some PSN accounts may have been compromised.
Late 80s and 90s action movies were known for having tech-savvy characters that could solve a pressing problem by attacking the keyboard of their ultra-advanced computers like maniacs and spouting made-up techno-babble. Back then these moments were the height of hilarity for anyone who knew how to use a computer and seem even more ridiculous to people watching them today, given how much we’ve learned about computers and how they’ve evolved.
Still, there’s something endearing and wonderful about the overdramatic computer genius cracking a code as a bomb ticks away. The moment the computer expert guesses the secret password of the government files the movie’s protagonist suddenly has to access is an exciting one for the audience.
It seems that everyone’s favorite movies get LEGO-ized at one point or another. Harry Potter, Indiana Jones, Star Wars, and Batman have all had their own LEGO sets. Most of them have even had LEGO video games.
Half the fun of having these bricks, though, was running wild with your imagination. Take a childlike imagination and combine it with the resources of adulthood, and you’ve got a pretty cool project. Custard Productions is famous for their humorous and creative short films using nothing but LEGO bricks and characters.
The team has done numerous movie trailer parodies and has even recreated entire scenes with LEGO people. This doesn’t sound like much until you consider that some of their favorite scenes are action scenes, like their Bourne Identity spoof. Ego TV has collected 10 of their videos depicting famous pop culture scenes. We’ve got a few collected below, but to see the entire collection see here.
