This is not the normal wine and cheese tasting. There will be no disposable tray of stale cheese with last week’s wine to wash it down. The Wine Connextion, located in North Andover, MA, has taken their new October campaign wine sampling to the next level with “S3” (Saturday Sampling Series).
First of all, the Wine Connextion wants their customers to be interactive in the store’s wine purchasing process. Now this is not something you can put on your resume but on sampling days, new wines will be presented and the customer’s feedback dictates what makes it on the shelf. What can you the customer look forward to during the Saturday Sampling Series? Try some of the newest wine on the market, the most incredible deals in the state and, because you shouldn’t drink on an empty stomach, guest will also sample some wonderful haute bites from restaurants such as Phat Cats Bistro, 15 Walnut, Glory Restaurant and past contender for The Next Food Network Star, Tom Grella.
One of the greatest lounges in New York will be offering New Year Eve deals all night. Have a laid back New Year with strong cocktails and great company. Stir will be offering a Pre-Fixe Dinner on Friday, December 31, 2010.
Seating is at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Enjoy a 3 course meal prepared by Chef Rene Gonzales. You will be able to choose from dishes like Cocktail Shrimp Crab Cake or Skirt Steak Bites. A healthy choice may be the Oriental Salad or Mix Greens with balsamic Vinaigrette. The difficulty may come at dinner with choices like Braised Frenched Chicken with a lemon herb béarnaise sauce or a Skirt Steak glazed with a chimichurru sauce Halibut Lacquered in a Asian pear sauce.
Halloween may be on a Sunday this year but that doesn’t mean the clubs won’t be popping. Celebrate Halloween night in style with a great beat. Tao Las Vegas is presenting Morillo Massacre with international superstar DJ Erick Morillo. Get your name on the guest list now before time runs out. Party starts at 9:30pm. I would get Monday off from work now.
Congratulations DC. The Columbia Room has landed on the GQ’s 25 Best Cocktail Bars in America list at number eighteen. So while you have been hard at work with those government documents the Columbia Room has been working hard to mellow you out.
Columbia Room’s Derek Brown is the man behind the drink creations. A craft honed in Japan among the world’s most precise bartenders there is nothing to fear from Brown’s ice cutting cleaver. Only open three nights a week GQ finds the only reward is, “the best martini in America.” This is not any martini. The gin is stored in a medical freezer, poured in a crystal glass the thermometer must read between 29-31 degrees before it is served.
GQ has acknowledged two well-known bars in Boston for their Top 25 Best Cocktail Bars in America. After a good game make your way over two this two watering holes for some alcoholic libations.
Coming in at lucky thirteen is Eastern Standard. Just a few blocks away from Fenway this is not your typical sports bar. Watch for the waitress around midnight to hop on the marble bar and write the specials. The whiskey smash (crushed ice and mint sprig) may sound sophisticated but it will make any game fun.
Los Angeles hasn’t lost its gift for making cocktails and GQ has noticed. If you haven’t tried out some of these GQ favorites some cocktail therapy is needed after work.
At number eleven on the list is Tiki-Ti. The rum never seems to run out here. The menu lists fifty-two rum drinks. While all are effective and tasty the best include homemade syrups. No high-fructose corn syrup coating these drink rims. This bar is Cash-Only but from what we hear after one of these drinks you’ll be crawling.
Props to you, San Francisco. In the latest copy of GQ, four hometown bars have made it into the Top 25 Best Cocktail Bars in America. Here are the places you should hit after work as voted by GQ.
In the number five spot is The Alembic. The employees are tattooed and the drinks are strong. The favorite was the Vasco da Gama, a drink served on the rocks with Buffalo Trace bourbon, masala-spiced apple syrup and Islay scotch. Not a whiskey/bourbon/scotch sort of person than gin it is. The Gilded Lily is a sparkling Chartreuse-and-gin cocktail because it is topped with edible gold dust.
Looking good in that costume. Now you just want a bite to eat on Halloween night but don’t want all the strange looks. Try eating at Jekyll and Hyde’s Restaurant and Bar. This haunted restaurant and bar is curious and bizarre. Jekyll and Hyde offers live entertainment and spooky special effects. Creatures will interact with you, while you enjoy a meal.
Be warned: don’t become Tobias the Werewolf’s dinner and don’t leave your boy toy alone with Dreadmina the Vampire. This is no play for a slutty fairy. Re-animation of Frankenstein will amaze you as much as the transformation of Dr Jekyll into the horrible Mr. Hyde will scare you.
Steve Earthman was the lucky winner of two tickets to The New England Dessert Showcase and now all are able to see his delicious recipe that knocked him into the top spot. It is the perfect fall treat with sweet maple, apples, peaches and pears, the zest of lemon and the saltiness of toasted nuts. It's a delicious healthy dessert to avoid the autumn gain.
