Celebrate Bastille Day in Boston

The French Cultural Center is celebrating France’s national holiday, Bastille Day, commemorating the storming of the Bastille prison in 1789 and the start of the French Revolution. Join them on July 9th with a huge street party from 6-11pm on Marlborough Street between Berkeley and Clarendon.

This year’s line-up was programmed by World Music/CRASHarts, Inc., and promises to be fun. Two francophone acts: Caravan Palace with their irresistible gypsy jazz electro-swing rhythms, and the high energy Tabou Combo, the “Ambassadors of Konpa”, Haiti’s national dance music. Enjoy French food and drinks, including beer and wine, for sale (Cash Only) from area restaurants including Beehive, Brasserie JO, Sandrine’s, Sel de la Terre, Petit Robert Bistro, and the Waffle Cabin.

An Italian Ice with flare is hitting The Metropolitan Club just in time for summer, Boozy Italian Ice. So simple, this off-menu age old treat has finally grown up. The missing ingredient to the time-less treat? Alcohol.

The Met is offering three spiked ices to choose from. There’s a Watermelon-Vodka Italian Ice, a Tamarind and Spiced Rum Italian Ice, or an updated classic, the Limoncello Italian Ice and all the ice as well as the limoncello is make in-house. The Boozy Italian Ice will cost $10.

Midsummer Dinner at the Beacon Hill Bistro

This week have a variety of Scandinavian dishes to celebrate the arrival of summer at the Beacon Hill Hotel & Bistro with a traditional “Midsommar Middag,” or “Midsummer Dinner”. Celebrate like they do in Sweden with a feast that includes cured salmon with potatoes in dill sauce and cucumber salad. The prefix menu will also offer some acquavit, an alcoholic drink commonly served in Scandinavia. Don’t worry - if Swedish food isn’t your thing, during this time Beacon Hill Bistro will also have their regular menu and prices available.

The Gallows Has Opened In Boston

You can thank Rebecca Roth, best know for opening The Biltmore Newton, and Chef Seth Morrison, formerly of Vee Vee for the vibe created in The Gallows. Once Sage, the new owners actually tore down a barn in Vermont (they paid for it first) and lined the inside with all the rough-hew wood to welcome the rustic flare.
