Editor's Picks: New Years DJ Bash

Between hit 2011 movies like Contagion and Melancholia, and the lunar Mayan prophecy looming, —it’s hard not to get the sense that life as we know it is ticking. So partiers will have the right to be confused at the club next weekend, December 31, when large unidentified objects dive down from the sky. Or from the ceiling, as certain venues are planning to unleash of 100,000 balloons to descend upon the crowd at midnight. But NYE party-goers, which includes anyone who wasn't transferred here begrudgingly for work, take heart, for if haplessly flapping through inordinate amounts of latex and helium doesn’t cut it, and aerial, and we assume hot, performers and pyrotechnic play don't either..then tip it up, throw it back & focus on the spin. Our favorite DJams of New Year's Eve include:

Season's Greetings

The official start date of winter may not be until December 21, but with the Midwest doused with heavy snowfall and the East Coast about to get hit with the same storm; it’s safe to say winter has come early, and in a big way.

By now if you haven’t heard of the collapse of the Minneapolis Metrodome due to a massive amount of snowfall then your eyes and ears may just be filled with the very same flakes that took down the 64,000 seat arena. And while Christmas is known for its chilly repertoire of Frosty the Snowman and “Chestnuts Roasting on an Open fire,” we can understand why all you snowbirds out there are yearning for a little sun and surf. So pack on up and come down to Miami for NYE 2011!

Must Have Additions To Your Outfit This New Year's Eve

1. Flats once “heel time” runs out

Let’s face it ladies, as much as we love what those 5 inch platforms do for our posture, legs and butt, the “heel time” on them is about 2 hours tops, less if you’re standing the entire time. A necessary addition to your clutch will be some type of disposable flat so that you’re not battling blisters on your feet for the next week. Try to space out how much time you’ll be seen wearing them and try to find a seat somewhere, even for five minutes at a time. Once the ball drops, throw on those flats and party the rest of the night away comfortably.

Kiss & Tell

The recession may be a thing of the past, a bruise on the economy that is still in the healing process, but this doesn’t mean we should all forget the lessons learned about spending beyond our means. How then does a man impress the girl of his dreams to snag that coveted NYE kiss? One word fellas – chivalry! Despite popular belief, it’s not dead, but alive and kicking. And what’s even better? Good manners are completely free. You can make that lucky girl feel like a million bucks without even spending a dime. So skip the expensive dinner and two dozen roses (a single long stem will suffice) and pull out her chair and open the door for her every chance you get. Tell her she’s beautiful and remember to treat everyone around you with kindness as well. So if you don’t want to be the guy standing all by his lonesome as the ball drops, ditch the pride and eat a big ole’ slice of humble pie, followed by a breadth mint of course.
