Tribeca Film Festival Unveils Shorts Program

The Tribeca Film Festival released its short film line-up today, which includes a series of 58 short films in 9 themed programs. Of those films 29 are world premieres and most have never been screened in the U.S. These high-profile shorts will also have plenty of celebrity performances, including Danny DeVito, Sally Hawkins, Alfie Allen, and voiceover work from Sigourney Weaver, Steve Buscemi and Fred Armisen.

Two documentary programs, Before Long and After Words, collect documentaries with a focus on personal triumph and tragedy, with subjects as diverse as the divisive musician Amanda Palmer, a Manson Family member, and the ex-footballers who turn into American Gladiators in their later careers. The final documentary program, City Limits, focuses on documentaries set in New York City, including one short titled “My Depression: The Up and Down and Up of It,” which was produced by HBO and includes many celebrity voice actors, and seems poised to be a break-out hit. There’s also an experimental program entitled Digital Dilemma, which focuses on the division in form and meaning between celluloid film and digital projection.
